A grieving psychotherapist begins telling his clients exactly what he thinks
Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes in people’s lives, including his own. The cast of ‘Shrinking’ shares their best moments from the first season and reveals who has the best Harrison Ford impersonation.
Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him to take the role
When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they convinced Harrison Ford to join the show, Segel said Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein they should at least introduce him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been brought on board, sparking interest from other famous actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless. I watched the first two episodes and found them captivating.
I also respect the way he presents himself: he doesn’t do things that other therapists have to do, and that’s pretty clear
Part of that is because I discovered there’s something real about a therapist needing therapy and wanting to reach out to his patients to overcome their problems in unexpected ways. He doesn’t get into the silly situations that other shows like Loot do, but he’s still early in the series and I’ll keep watching.
The show isn’t for everyone
That said, I like the depth of the characters that don’t seem like caricatures; they’re people I want to get to know.
